3 biggest mistakes of GMAT test takersFrom our experience of providing classroom coaching for GMAT here are the 3 most common mistakes committed by GMAT test takers.
Mistake 1: Studying from the official GMAT material ( by GMAC)
We encourage our students to study Official Guide for GMAT. In fact, every student who enrolls for GMAT coaching with Apphelp is provided an original official Guide copy. But, OG is not the only source for GMAT preparation one should rely on if you want to score well in GMAT. According to us, the actual level of GMAT is tougher than the questions in Official guide and hence if you are targeting a GMAT score of 700 plus then do complete OG but don’t rely only on that.
Mistake 2: Focusing on memorizing the formulas & techniques
Most test takers think that if they memorize the formulas and the type of questions the typically appear in GMAT they will be able to crack the GMAT. GMAT tests the application of the understanding of the concepts. Hence focus on how to apply what you learn and how to develop strategies to handle questions.
Mistake 3: Trying to go through a lot of books and questions
Agreed. More practice helps, but only up to a certain point. After this you start losing your interest. There is a peak in your GMAT preparation after which your score starts heading south. Also, unless you see how much improvement you are making in terms of scoring, spanning books won’t help. Full length tests and even sectional tests are a good tool to measure you r progress. Make sure that you see how much you have improved with every weeks practice and then figure out your weaker areas and start working on them.
