How to get started with GMAT preparationThis is what you can do to prepare yourself well for GMAT and to target a score of 700+
You have to set a time frame for yourself. Lets say that you have 4 weeks to prepare for GMAT.
How will this post help you
This will give you an idea of study methods, time management etc so
that you can prepare your own plan. You can see how structured
preparation can help if you have the right GMAT preparation material.
This requires sheer dedication and in my opinion one month is not a lot
of time if you are preparing part time. You need a lot of dedication
& focus along with correct guidance.
We recommend the following books to get the basics right. These will help you prepare well for both Verbal & quant.
1. Official Guide for GMAT Review - 11th Edition (OG) 2. Kaplan GMAT Premier Program - 2007 Edition (Kaplan) 3. Kaplan GRE & GMAT Exams Math Workbook - 3rd Edition (Kaplan Math)
Before you start the preparation, figure out where you stand. This
will help you figure out what areas you need to concentrate the most
on. You can take the Diagnostic Test in the OG or GMATcoaching.com's mock trial exam. Do a thorough analysis of your performance on the diagnostic.
Lets say you get the following score
Quant - Problem Solving - 11/24 (Average) Data Suffiency - 12/24 (Average)
Verbal - Reading Comprehension - 16/17 (Much Above Average) Critical Reasoning - 15/17 (Much Above Average) Sentence Correction - 14/18 (Above Average)
This kind of analysis will clearly show that you are weak in quant
and pretty string in verbal. So, according to us you need to focus a
lot on quant.
After doing the basics move on to Full length practice tests to
check what score you get under real test conditions, your areas of
improvement and to improve your score drastically in the last few days.
Now go & Crack the GMAT...
